So you are preparing for your trip and kind of getting nervous about the whole sleep situation. Well, there are definitely things you can do to prepare for a few nights away.
Oh no, what about naps?
Are naps even possible on vacation? Well, in my experience when my son was around one and we went to Mexico I would put him down for his scheduled nap and he slept. Of course, this is not always possible if you are planning a day trip out or if you end up traveling throughout the day. Hopefully, your child will catch a nap in a car or plane ride. I have found if my son is tired enough he will shut his eyes during these times. That being said he is two now and napping when we are anywhere but home is out of the question. Young babies are more likely to nap in unfamiliar surroundings.
Bedtime routines continue….
It is a good idea to continue the familiar bedtime routine when traveling. I try to stick to around the same bedtime and always create the same routine your child is familiar with. Since you are traveling and in a new environment this helps kids know what to expect next. They will feel comforted by having their night time bath, bedtime stories and listening to their music.
Bring familiar items….
Bring your own crib sheets with your travel bed and any favorite blankets. Little babies rely on sense of smell and this will provide comfort. My son would be lost without his blanket and his lovey. These things will provide a bit of security in an unknown place and help them to fall asleep comforted.
When you get home it will take a few days to get back into the regular routine, but don’t worry it should all come back to your baby soon enough. Hope you found some of these tips helpful.
